The theatre takes to the streets of St Hilaire de Riez
It was a Bank Holiday last Thursday & anyone who could swing it was on a long weekend.  For the 4th year running, St Hilaire had laid on ‘LA DEFERLANTE’, 4 fabulous days of street theatre. The weather held good & it was Paris Plage in front of the 11th century church with several tonnes of sand brought in for the occasion.
In between two shows, the kids romped about in the makeshift dunes & the adults could watch from the comfort of the bar terrasse just opposite. The Pitts Family wowed us with their off the wall acrobats, and hats off to the mini member of the family ‘Wee Pitt’ who must have been all of 5 yrs old.
The audience encouraged Cecil with his explanations in French, these guys come all the way from Tasmania. I sneakied up to the front row with my 4 yr old and had the best seats in the house. If you get a chance to see them anywhere else, don’t miss it, they were hysterical and they make it look so easy! Loving those yellow tutus!
And another show that had us in fits was Magic Cooker 13, a magical invention that’ll prepare your starter, main and dessert in 13 minutes flat! Ah, one can always dream…
Here’s that link again, (all in French but easy to follow) it’s worth keeping an eye on it ‘cos there’ll be a Summer version of the festival, and it takes place all along along the Vendée coast. Free entry.
