Everything’s coming up roses…
Sunday morning, it was already too hot for the beach, and anyhow, I was still recovering from my day’s fishing. We jumped in the car and headed for La Roseraie de Vendée in St Révérend, where there was a craft and natural products market, I so love this kind of thing!
Free entry to the market and the chance to taste some pigeon pâté (the boys gave it the thumbs up) or some tangy ginger cordial at the bar. Then some mandarine, then a lavender kir…
We bumped into Walter, a local ‘cordonnier’, you’ll find his hand crafted leather sandals, clogs and purses on the market in St Gilles Croix de Vie on a Wednesday and a Saturday. If you miss him there, he also has a heel-bar in the HyperU centre in Aizenay.
We also got the chance to see Monsieur Gabriel MOLET, a gifted sculptor now established in St Révérend, at work on a Celtic Cross. And what about those hand-crafted soaps that looked scrumptious enough to eat?
We’re only in the month of May and the rose garden is a riot of colours. This is a definite address for the summer months when everything will be in full bloom. Just 3,50 per adult to see what is already a beautifully scented garden and the under 13’s go free. If you’re a rose lover, this is a wee haven of perfumed tranquility and the entry fee is so reasonable, it’d be a shame not to stop off!
Here’s the exact address: La Roseraie de Vendée, Rond Point des 4 Chemins, 85220 St Révérend.  The entrance is easy to miss, there’s a white signpost with pink writing at ground level, so keep your eyes peeled. Plenty of car parking space in the field as you drive in, on your right. Loos on site.

Hi Trevor,
Not sure if you are still working on the Vendee Guide or looking for help with North Vendée reviews…?
For info, Mary moved away from the Vendée last year and so, after some months, I have now been asked by Vendée Cote de Lumiere to take over and re-launch the blog as such.
You will be able to enjoy the very first instalment this week…
If you are still looking for a link up between Vendee Guide and Mary’s Blog then please do get in touch again and we will take it from there!
Kind regards,
Carine
Your images are stunning, really takes me back to vendee, bright lovely vibrant colours….
Hi Mary. Trevor her from http://www.vendee-guide.co.uk .I came across your blog while doing research for the guide and was wondering, firstly whether you would object to me using some of your posts on the guide or blog. From the way you write i take it you live in the northern end of the Vendee, where as i live in the south and as such not always able to get to review all that i would like.
Secondly I was wondering if you would be prepared to write reports or reviews on subjects relating to tourism in the Vendee. It is important for the guide to find articles and reviews from local authors to add more credibiliy and interest from as wide field as possible. I will of course acredit the work with a link back to your blog.
The http://www.vendee-guide.co.uk is now nearly a year old, has some 650 plus pages and already well placed in the search engines.
I lookforward to hearing from you
I like it! I’d love to be there and enjoy it all…. Hopefully soon
We will be visiting vendee this Summer so great to know there i so much to do!!!!!!!!!!!!
