Vendée Protest Pro

The Vendée school spring break is under way and there’ll be plenty to keep me occupied!  I’m hoping to get a run down to Bretignolles sur Mer to see the World Surfing Professional Championships under way (21st to 25th April).

No need to fly to the other side of the world to see the action, the surf champions are on our very doorstep for the Protest Vendée Pro 2010, the  first French stage of the ASP World Qualifying Series 4*.

The coast of Brétignolles sur Mer

We’ll hopefully get an excellent view of the action from the craggy coastline. The French have won this stage of the championship for the last 3 yrs so the atmosphere is bound to be electric!  There’ll be food & drinks stalls set up and at night, the spot will be lit up!

Check out this webcam link to see the spot live!  The English discovered the spot at La Sauzaie way back in the Big Hair Days of the 80’s & it’s now considered one of the top European spots.

The words ‘ barrels, powerful carves and vertical assaults’ might be double dutch to me, but this is 10 minutes down the coast from me and I don’t want to miss it!

On the 17th & 18th April, La Coupe de France [the French Cup] will begin the 2010 season of the French Surfing Federation.

Then on the 19th & 20th, it’s the young European women surfers who’ll take to the waves for the le Bréti Girls Pro Junior (the Bréti Girls Pro Junior Competition).
